The owners of this classically styled penthouse approached Stewart for a complete cosmetic update. The apartment had been previously decorated in masculine tobacco stained hues, rich timbers and traditional fittings. The tones and textures impeded and muted the natural light.

Their brief was to saturate the spaces with as much light as possible, and to create a sophisticated backdrop for the clients’ artwork and personal photographic collection – a result of their extensive travels to isolated areas around the globe. Existing furnishings were edited down, allowing treasures to be celebrated. Many new key furnishings from renowned international designers were custom ordered to create cohesion and inviting conversation areas.

Soft, warm greys, pewters, reflective wall coverings, nickel and mirror finishes were introduced, and then punctuated with the drama of liquorice tones. Existing parquetry floors were limewashed, while exterior travertine tiles were replaced with pale marble parquetry to match. Rich exotic silk floor and wall coverings imbued with eastern motifs reflected the owners’ cherished pieces. Both decorative and concealed lighting was an important part of the process to achieve the desired illumination.

The collaboration has resulted in a cultured, refined and radiant abode.
